As an author of children’s books, I drew inspiration for my first book, “The Six Forest Friends,” from my six grandchildren. Each child possesses a unique personality that makes them special, and I sought to capture that individuality in my writing.
My creative process thrives in quiet moments, typically late at night when the household sleeps, and I find joy in crafting animal characters rather than human protagonists.
My literary portfolio includes several animal-themed books such as “Little Clumsy Spider,” “Sammy the Fox Learns about Easter,” and the expansive “Forest Friends” series, which now comprises ten volumes. Writing requires solitude for me, and I prefer the tranquil nighttime hours to cultivate my ideas, though daytime writing is not uncommon.
My reading tastes are diverse, spanning detective series like Sue Grafton’s Alphabet novels and Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum books, to romance books by Harlequin, and Nora Roberts, Danielle Steel, and V.C. Andrews.
The journey to publishing my first children’s book was challenging. After initial difficulties with Durrance Publishing Co.’s expensive services, I discovered Literacy Agency Co., which offered a more affordable path to publication. They guided me through the process and connected me with Eloquent Books/Strategic Book, resulting in the release of “The Six Forest Friends.”When book sales were slow, I adapted my strategy. I transformed the original story into a series, focusing on individual characters. Ultimately, I chose Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) for greater creative control, allowing me to complete and publish the entire book series independently.
